Thank you for teaching me this past year. This is how it went for me:

Maths

Maths was quite easy. We had covered the topics so I had no troubles in this paper. There were time zones questions, fraction addition and a question about the most likely total of two dice being rolled. I think I did okay in that test.

English

English, I thought, was the most difficult. The passage was about a fireball hurtling to Earth and a girl called Julie watching from inside a car. There were some hard questions, but some were easy too. In the spelling, there was tricky words like ‘weird’, ‘guarantee’ and ‘argument’. Also, there were dashes in the punctuation.

Verbal Reasoning

I was quite surprised by the amount of codes and double-deckers but I like those types, so I wasn’t put out by the amount. It was great that you taught us the Piano Method and gave us lots of code sheets to do. I thankfully finished the paper, but I didn’t have much time to revise. There were no math type questions but I think I was fine.

Once again, thank you for tutoring me this year. I have learnt so many new things.

I wanted to take a few moments out to write and thank you for what you did for Tom over the last year or so.

I guess that your work was done the day he sat the 11+ and so the thank you should have come then. The thing is that it was hard to get a sense for how well he had done or more importantly how far he has come by simply looking at the scores.  It wasn’t until the e mail arrived this morning offering a place at KEGS that it really came home.

You may recall that we came to you and I was quite doubtful about the whole process as we only wanted KEGS because it’s too far to travel to Southend or Westcliff.   You managed our expectations and didn’t promise miracles, but after a few months you (Neil) showed me how he was getting on in comparison with previous years and boys who had got into KEGS.  That really drove home the fact that the work you were doing, allied with the work Tom was doing was really paying off.

Paying for Tom’s education was never an option for us either financially or ethically and so the attempt at KEGS was all or nothing for us.

I can honestly say that on the day of the exam, I thought ‘oh my goodness what have I put him up against’.  There were a whole load of other boys there in their public school uniform with an air of calm.  Tom, however, clearly listened to whatever you told him, got his head down and delivered a performance which got him into KEGS at the first opportunity, no appeals, no waiting list, straight in.

My wife and I are very grateful for the passion you put into teaching Tom, your honesty and when needed your encouragement. I have no doubt that Tom is a bright boy, I also have no doubt that the value you added got him his place at KEGS.

Possibly the best money we have ever spent.

Thank you

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate what you have done. I feel confident that I've done well, due to your help. I can't imagine how nervous I would be without your techniques. I finished all 3 tests and still had time to check thanks to your timing.

Thanks again,
