Why Totus?

Totus Education is founded by Martin Adams and Mark Adams, who bring their rich experience in technology, education, communications and media to play through Totus Education.

Martin Adams was born in Chelmsford, Essex. He has studied at universities in London and Sydney, and holds a Masters degree in Law from Harvard University, where he graduated with a Dean's prize. He is the author of the book Succeeding at Secondary School (available here), and his experience in tech and education comes from both sides of the Atlantic- in the UK he has worked at Songkick.com and is the Founder of the Social Media Unit @ UCL, while in the USA he is a qualified New York IP attorney and has sat on the Junior Board of the children’s charity, CASA New York.

Mark Adams was also born in Essex and holds a Masters in Law from the University of London. He has been called a 'Star of Tech City' by The Guardian, and is a Director of 'theAudience'; a company founded with Sean Parker - the creator of Napster and Facebook- and executives from Disney in the USA. He is a leading speaker on technology and digital media, including in education, and teaches at various universities in Digital Media.

Totus Education exists to confront the most pressing problem facing young people today: the huge gulf between what we expect of students within our education system and beyond, and what we actually equip them for.

Our approach at Totus Education is modern and holistic. We publish materials, design courses, and deliver inspiring teaching. And we also help innovative products companies that share our vision of educating the mind and not simply the brain. We work to help students understand that effective learning requires mastering a broad range of skills and disciplines that schools alone cannot be expected to foster.

At the level of our consultancy and curriculum design offering, we bring our insights and contacts from education, technology and media to ensure that companies with innovative products have genuine impact with end users in educational markets around the world.

And at the level of our publishing and education centre offering, we have leveraged our experience operating at the very top levels of global education in order to create a comprehensive educational system comprised of published materials, inspiring teaching centres, skills workshops and innovative assessment offerings which make teaching easier, and learning more effective.

Because we are on the ground with students, parents, educators and innovative product companies, we remain the best placed to bring these parties together in a way which benefits all.

There is a palpable truth at play here. Education technology products can positively impact the educational experience of students in an overhwleming range of ways. But to be in a position to do this, they must be understood- and accepted with real enthusiasm- by teachers.

That is why we exist.
